During the pandemic, I took a class that interfaced with specially-abled artists and designers at the Exceptional Children's Foundation and Momentum Creative. We learned more about their journey with art and collaborated on several projects culminating with a virtual gallery exhibition. We sent each other artwork back and forth, both digitally and physically, modifying it each time. For this illustration, we collaborated on a poem that represented our perception of connecting online and reaching for each other digitally but never connecting physically. I decided to visually represent this by handwriting the poem and forming a pair of hands reaching each other.

The poem reads:

Flexibility...

Flexibility, adaptability, and the idea of being flexible

for all ways of being.

Flexibility is the basis of empathy,

which is important for everyone.

Flexibility allows us to be at any place, at any time.

Travel… information super-highway.

The digital world is a conduit.

It provides unlimited possibilities,

and a piece of us travels with our work.
